HAWMC Day 1

Today’s Challenge:

Health Time Capsule. Pretend you’re making a time capsule of you & your health focus that won’t be opened until 2112. What’s in it? What would people think of it when they found it?

Let’s see…put it all together and you get…heart. Heart health is really the common theme of several health focuses, from allergies to menopause to cardiovascular health itself. Whoever opens the time capsule will find its contents enclosed in a handmade valentine…I’ve made my own valentines since I was in kindergarten!

My time capsule would include — from my childhood — many boxes of tissues and bottles of antihistamines. And I would add some lilac sprigs to celebrate my first allergy-free spring! Ever since that year, the springtime and plants have held a special place in my heart.

I would include in my time capsule many plants, including stinging nettle and oatstraw — two of my favorite herbal remedies. And of course, hawthorn berries — good for the heart! As I approached middle age, I devoted more time to the study of herbal medicine, and would definitely leave a memento of medicinal plants in my time capsule! I would include some of my favorite herbal books, as well as cookbooks with my favorite healthy, wholesome recipes.

Herbal allies have nurtured me through menopause, and have helped me care for family members with health issues, such as diabetes and heart disease. I am now learning to care for my own heart, too, thanks to the wisdom of my doctor!

I hope that when people open the time capsule, they will see evidence of a life lived from the heart. I hope that they will learn from the plants and books in the time capsule, and be inspired to learn about healing gifts from nature. And…I hope they’ll be inspired to buy some construction paper and take time to make some valentines!

How about you? Write about your own tie capsule and join the challenge at this link:
